Ethical use of AI for Learning Teaching and Research - an online symposium, 28 Nov
Invitation from Prof Johannes Cronje:
Dear Colleague
We invite proposals for a "Long Lunch Symposium" scheduled for 28 November 2024, from 12:00 to 14:00 (SAST). This online event will focus on reflecting on the transformative impact of Large Language Models (LLMs), such as ChatGPT, and other Artificial Intelligence applications, which, by the end of November, will have been part of our digital ecosystem for two years. During this time, AI has reshaped the way we engage with knowledge, learn, and teach. But what has truly changed?
The symposium will center around the ethical use of AI in Learning, Teaching, and Research. We encourage presenters to explore critical questions such as:
-
How have LLMs affected pedagogical approaches?
-
What new challenges and opportunities arise with AI integration in academic settings?
-
What ethical considerations should guide the future of AI in education and research?
We welcome innovative perspectives on:
-
AI's role in enhancing or diminishing critical thinking
-
Responsible and equitable use of AI tools in diverse learning environments
-
The future of academic integrity in an AI-driven world.
Presentation Format
In keeping with the dynamic nature of the symposium, all presentations will follow the PechaKucha style:
-
20 slides,
-
20 seconds per slide,
-
for a total presentation time of 6 minutes and 40 seconds.
This format encourages concise, engaging storytelling that highlights key insights while fostering dialogue.
Submission Guidelines
Submit your proposals by 10 November 2024 at https://sites.google.com/site/capelearning/home
Successful applicants will be notified by 15 November 2024.
We look forward to your creative and thought-provoking contributions!
